Serpentina Palette

                        Today's Review
     KAT VON D'S SERPENTINA PALETTE

Copyright 2016
This one I'm very excited to review which is the Kat Von D, Serpentina Palette. Unfortunately it is not available via her website or Sephora but if you live in Australia it's still available on their website: Sephora Australia
Or you are able to find it on Amazon for a relatively large marked up price from the original. That being said it is Limited Edition so it's not surprising it now costs a little more for the quantity that's left on the market.

Originally I had bought this palette for $45 USD and thankfully it was still in stock around September 2016 at my local Sephora. I had seen Tati Westbrook review it and the swatches were just so eye catching. The pigmentation was absolutely beautiful and I needed to have this little gem for myself. If you'd like to watch that particular video I'll post it at the end of the blog for you guys to watch.
Now before purchasing I definitely did my research. I watched numerous reviews on it as well as read some on various sites. It was around a 50/50 review where some were relatively good and some were absolutely bad. In those situations I just need to try it for myself to get an accurate feel for it and how the product performs.
So let's start from how the colors range in the palette above. The first shade is a beautiful red called Bloodmilk. Then we have Medusa, Ankh, Queen, Hieroglyph, Nile, Scarab, Venom and a loose pigment pot called Prophet.

When swatching Bloodmilk I honestly didn't think it had enough pigmentation. It skipped a bit initially and didn't really translate well on the skin. But picking it up with a blending brush I definitely was able to build a very good even amount of pigmentation on the lid.
Medusa is a very light gold shade with a finer micro glitter in it. I thought that because it looked so light that it would translate like that when swatching. However it is more brown toned and pigmented so go in with a light hand when blending.
Ankh is a very dark brown shade with mirco glitter in it. It's something you want to definitely use with a very light hand as it is pigmented. And because it's pigmented initially you have to spend your time blending. If you have patience you can definitely make this work.
Queen is a beautiful metallic magenta shade. This shade I love out of the palette because it honestly has the most universal applications to it with any eye look. I love this shade all over the lid, in the crease, as an accent under the eye to brighten. It's pigmented as well so a light hand also goes a long way and you must take your time to blend this one out.
Hieroglyph is one of those shades that is a little daunting at first to want to use. It is a orange shade in the pan but swatched it's much lighter and also is one of my favorite universal shades in this palette. It's not quiet as pigmented as the others but again, blending is key with this palette.
Nile is a deep cobalt shade that's just absolutely stunning. It's what initially drew me to want this palette. Now blue eye shadow can look a hot mess if done incorrectly which is why I love this as a lid color with a deep navy to compliment it in a smoky eye look. It's richly pigmented and it just glides so much more beautifully than any of the shades in this palette.
Scarab was also one of those shades that drew me to this. I love the green shade as it compliments the gold shades in the palette and any warm toned shades or even cool tone brown shades in another. It has also one of the best pigmentations out of any color in this palette and is also one of my favorites.
Venom is one of those shades that looks like a pretty lilac shade and besides Bloodmilk one of the only matte shades in this palette. I tried pairing it with some of the other colors but it stands out that it doesn't pair with any of the shades at all. It's very chalky and dusty and the pigmentation is almost non existent. I had to use gratuitous amounts of setting spray to get it to lie on the lid evenly and pigmented enough to see.
Prophet is also just everything. I am a little fearful of loose pigment as I'm rather clumsy and tend to spill things like that everywhere. With a little bit of spray added to the brush I was able to pick up a small amount of this pigment and make it go a long way. It's beautiful. It is a true gold shade without looking like you've put too much on and it's absolutely gorgeous paired with anything in this palette.

So now that we've gone through all the shades my overall review of this palette is a 7/10. I really do like it and I find that it's exceptional quality in a lot of areas and the packaging is stunning. Her art is absolutely eye catching and I just love staring at this palette on my vanity sometimes. However, this palette is for someone maybe a little more adventurous than I am. It also has no transitions shades so you definitely need to pair this with a few other palettes to get the desired eye look you need. Which transitions shades are always a necessity in an eye shadow palette. I would suggest pairing this with a Morphe Palette if you have one. I have the 35OM myself and sometimes will pair it with some of the shades in the Serpentina Palette.

Well that's it. Thanks for reading this review and keep yourself updated on the next one.

Today's Review is                     COLOURPOP!

Copyright 2016

ColourPop Cosmetics is famous for being the brand that is affordable, yet performs like high end. This brand has been hot this past year and has been in demand. So let's get down to the nitty gritty.
In the pictures I have three highlighters, one bronzer and one eye shadow. I also own one ultra matte liquid lipstick, a Lippie Stix and two sample size glosses.

Highlighters:
LunchMoney ($8)
Stole the Show ($8)
Hippo ($8)

Bronzer:
Paradise Cove ($8)

Eyeshadow:
Hanky Panky ($5)

Ultra Matte Lip:
Midi ($6)
"I also got Times Square ($6) from my friend Jenna not that long ago and its a Ultra Matte Lip as well"

Lippie Stix:
Pillow Talk ($5)
"Let's be real I bought it because it's the same name as that Zayn Malik song."
Frieda ($5)
"Don't want to recommending Freida because the shade is currently no longer available. However the shade Contempo ($5) is very close in shade and very flattering"

Ultra Glossy Lip:
Piranha ($6)
Finders Keeper's ($6)

Whew that was a lot of linking, let's start from the top and work our way down.

  • Highlighters. Everyone loves them nowadays. You have to get that glow in order to become instagram ready. You have to #slay the day essentially. I had not a single highlighter in my collection up until I bought the three above. Let me tell you they changed my life. I have swatched the Anastasia, I've played around with the Becca, CoverFX, Tarte, Too Faced and honestly you don't find the kind of quality for the price as you do in Coloupop Highlighters. The product is smooth, almost cool to the touch and it has a bounce to it as if like a sponge. The color pay off is amazing and does not irritate the skin at all or even bring out much of my texture. But $8 for a highlighter? Kind of felt like highway robbery but honestly I love that it's so affordable. Now I wouldn't be a blogger if I didn't throw in a con somewhere. It's not a huge dealbreaker but, I am not a fan of the packaging at all. The pan does come out, but it's plastic. It's hard to put in a palette, and it takes up a lot of my vanity space. I'm not the one to display my make up like some of the YouTuber's out there, where they have towers and displays that can afford to make these little containers look spectacular. As for the amount in the pan itself you only get 0.15 ounces and I consider this to be a con as well. I'm not wasteful with my highlighter and load it on butust give myself a dewy look like my skin is healthy. But I have had to rotate out of my ColourPop Highlighters to better save them and make them last longer.
  •  Next is the Bronzer. I don't like this at all. Not this shade at least. I had bought it in hopes that it would be maybe a little bit more on the cooler side without it being a contour shade. Bronzers look very orange on me because my skin is pale. I also have large pores which causes texture and sensitive Asian skin essentially. Now, it feels nice, texture when swatching is nice, and the price is just right. But it has never paired well with any of my foundations and grabs at it and I just couldn't get it to blend how I wanted it to. And I got skin irritation from trying to blend and the bristles from my brush apparently were too harsh going over that many times on my skin.
  • Eyeshadow. This wasn't a win for me. However I have heard nice things and have swatched my friends other colors that they have. I have to say that though my shade I chose is perfect for crease and transition it is not something that shows up readily like other shades. I would recommend buying a few so you can get a full color range.

  • Ultra Matte Lip. There seems some controversy on it and it is still a hot topic. But this liquid lipstick is 50/50 for me. On one hand it does last a very long time. On the other it dries my lips out. On one hand I don't require lip liner, on the other it dries down instantly and when you mess up there's just the point you start over. My lips are always deathly dry. I hydrate frequently and lip scrub and no matter what my lips are chapped. So, this liquid lipstick just wasn't for me. But, I do recommend this as worth the buy. For an opposite side of this and a full and maybe much shorter review on the Kylie Lip Kit go to my friend Jenna's blog right here.
  • Lippie Stix. I LOVE THESE! Guys...the formula has the best slip in it. And I've got a boat load of lipstick. But I love my Lippie Stix. The color is just amazing and in one swipe I have the best coverage. I do recommend a lip liner however but I don't have a ColourPop one I pair it actually with a Milani brand lipliner found here. I absolutely am obsessed with that lipliner and it's only $5 as well!
  • Last and very much not least the Ultra Glossy Lip. I actually really dislike lip gloss. I loved it as a fourteen year old but I grew out of it quick. It was a free sample so I shrugged my shoulders and was like, "Why not?" I actually really like them. They are great toppers on almost any lipstick and just have a really good consistency. It's not like you get that string of goop every time you close your lips and the colors honestly are super flattering. I will also put this on my lists of must buys.
So what would I rate ColourPop out of 10?
I'd give it a solid 8/10 it's really up there in quality and you can't beat the price.
I hope it wasn't too much reading but you made it all the way to the end and I hope I convinced you to add some ColourPop to your beauty collection.
Disclaimer: I was not sponsored with these products. I bought them on my own.

Welcome to my Blog!

 HELLO EVERYONE!

So I have been sitting on this idea for a while but I definitely got a huge inspiration from my friend Jenna who has her own wonderful blog right here: https://beautybyjennalyn.com/ Jenna has written some very informative pieces on both high end and drugstore beauty brands. I find that she has almost always been on par with my taste in makeup and skin care and has recommended to me many of my favorite brands that I use today. Yes, we are avid Ulta and Sephora shoppers as well as online hauling. Our eyes are always on the look out for the best bang for your buck. I too want to go through and try some things out of my own collection and move on from there.

   A little about myself:
I'm 25 years old and I live in thee most expensive part of the world which is the San Francisco Bay Area. Here it's a culture unto it's own and an industry thriving on student loans and broken dreams. I myself have had numerous crappy retail jobs and on and off in college for the better part of six years now. In this time I have only found a few things that make me happy.
  • My dearly departed feline friend whom I had since I was seven years of age. His name was Soy Sauce and he was the most perfect kitty in the whole world to me.
  • My boyfriend whom I love and have happily been with for almost three years now.
  • Cars. My Car, your car, all cars. I'm currently going to school to be a Mechanic (Yeah odd right? Cause isn't this supposed to be a beauty blog?)
  • And of course Makeup. I love Makeup. Maybe almost a little too much.
  •
It's made me so extremely happy though to have a creative outlet. Of course my first YouTuber was NikkiTutorials then I discovered GlamLifeGuru (Tati Westbrook), Laura Lee, Manny MUA, Jeffree Star, Patrick Starrr, Kathleen Lights and much more. I'm obsessed with the tutorials and the glam and it's such a good outlet for when you don't feel beautiful or you don't feel like you can be yourself. Makeup is almost a language and it's nice when you can speak it with many others because in a way you almost feel connected.
And maybe I will inspire one of you to do the same. Let me know with some feedback maybe what you'd like to see in these reviews and opinions. Because lets face it...it's all opinion. I'm not a professional makeup artist, a cosmetologist, scientist, celebrity or anyone really. I'm plain Jane ordinary, me. So I hope that my word is taken at best.

Links Below are all the YouTubers I mentioned:
